Classic Buttermilk Biscuits with Sausage Gravy
Ingredients:
For the Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
6 tbsp cold butter, cubed
¾ cup buttermilk
For the Sausage Gravy:
1 lb ground breakfast sausage
¼ cup all-purpose flour
2½ cups whole milk
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Biscuits:
Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cut in cold butter with a pastry cutter (or use your hands) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually stir in buttermilk until just combined.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface, cut biscuits, and place on a baking sheet.
Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
Make the Gravy:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it into crumbles.
Sprinkle flour over sausage, stirring for 1–2 minutes to coat evenly.
Slowly add milk, stirring constantly, until thickened.
Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Simmer for 5 minutes until creamy.
Serve & Enjoy!
